Trim Last Try

I posted this once before, but there's new information. 89 85hp l-drive. Trim goes up fine. Motor doesn't stop when it reaches the top (should it?). Down didn't work, but after loosening the rear hydraulic line then tightening again, down works. If I don't stop the up sequence as soon as it hits the top, down will stop working again until I let a couple drops out of that rear line. Ideas? Not a big deal since I can make it work, but it's annoying.

Did you check the fluid level?

Yes, but here's the strange part. When i first got the boat the plastic container was bone dry, the outdrive was parked up and the up circuit worked but obviously didn't move anything. Added fluid - too much. Down worked and the extra fluid leaked all over hell. Now it's where it should be.
