Trim issue

Trim up is not working. I replaced the up trim solenoid and the problem remained. At that point I tracked the problem (I thought) to the switch because when I jumped the wires it would activate the trim either up or down depending on which wire I was jumping to power. I also reversed the up and down trim wires on solenoids and determined that both solenoids are functioning. A friend had the exact switch for this boat so I installed that and the problem remains. All I can think is the sensor on the side of the outboard unit is faulty and telling the system the unit is in the up position. Does this sound like a reasonable thought? Does the trailer button over ride the sensor?
Very confused on this one and dont want to rely in the trailer button to trim up.
Thanks for any help on this.

lets make sure we have this right trailer button always works to come up, and down always works? Trim up never works?

if thats the case yes your trim limit switch is broken. Kind of a PITA to replace. You can jumper out the limit switch or just use trailer as it makes sense to wait until you need bellows To do the switch and sender. Some folks have been able to wrangle in there and just do the switch but i wouldnt mess with it until you get in there.

trailer and trim up both use same solenoid, just parallel switches to energize it , limit switch cuts of the trim switch so yes trailer basically overrides it by taking a parallel path …just need to be careful not to over trim when at speed can damage u joints etc

the out drive switch or the wires corroded to the up switch, then the up button on the dash was using the dash up switch ..2 solenoids up and is down ...the dash switch uses a voltmeter ...to troubleshoot it ..

Jump trim solenoids. If OD goes up and down then you have a bad connection somewhere. 1991.... My guess is that your rams are locked internally. I had to totally rebuild mine. Seals get old and let in water.

I’m going to take the trim sensors off the out drive and see if they can be cleaned and and reinstalled. If not I’m going to just replace over the winter.

You don't need to bother with the trim sender (starboard side) its just for the gauge indication. The limit switch comes through transom housing and plugs into engine harness you can unplug it and jumper it then the trim up should work. You can test ohms on switch side of this connection but based on what you describe it is broken and not completing the circuit
