Trim indicator.....

The trim indicator on my boat has started working intermitantly, and last night didn't work much at all.

At first, it worked fine, but later started to read all the way up, unless I was steering to the right. When steering right, it would work correctly. Now it hardly works at all.

Any suggestions on troubleshooting/fixing this?

The boat is a 2000 Four Winns Horizon 210 with a Volvo-Penta 5.0L I/O, single prop.

Thanks in advance for any help that you folks can provide.

brianb

Also look for pinched/broken/corroded wires.

You guys rock!

It's a broken wire, but it's the 'little white signal wire', and it's broken about 1/8" from the sender unit. GRUMBLE, GRUMBLE, GRUMBLE....

Looks like I'll have to replace the sender. More gratuitus grumbling added....

Thanks for the prompt, accurate responses!

brianb
ke5bsa

Re: Trim indicator.....

you can replace it with the drive on mikey. normally it comes out in pieces. i have a sharp long screwdriver i cut the head of the grommet with then push it through, far easier then trying to get it to come out sometimes. when reinstalling i use dishwashing liquid on the grommet.
you will likely need a second set of hands inside the boat.
