Trim Hydraulics

Hello;

I have a Chapparal 185, with a 115hp Mercury. Am trying to find out what year, my serial is OC or OG 272082. When I was loading the trailer last fall, I noticed my engine would not trim all the way to 90 degrees.

There are 3(three) hydraulic rods to tilt and trim. The big main one that tilts the motor works fine the motor raises and lowers onto the 2(two) lower, smaller rods fine. But, once on the lower rods, it stops and I cannot trim the angle any further, than on the rods, fully extended. The two rods will not retract to give me the correct cruising angle. Is there a poosibility of air Lock ? And the little Allen head screw that is in clamping plaque itself, on the starbord of the little, starbord hydraulic rod, is that a bleeder valve for just such an air lock ? If so, how far back do I bring it and how imperitive is it if I lose a little oil ? Is there a marked measurement for the level ?

Please, any assistance would be greatly appreciated,..........

sincerely,

Re: Trim Hydraulics

It would help to know the year of that engine

If you're lowering that engine manually, those two trim rams do not, will not move in.

If you're actually using the electrical system and the electric PTT motor does not pull those two trim rams in, check for low fluid an a open manual release valve which might have some bearing on the problem. Other than this, I could only suspect internal manifold problems..... jammed check valve (open or closed), etc.

Re: Trim Hydraulics

Duke, Look up the year of that Merc at the maxrules.com website Merc model year guide. Repost in the Merc section.
