I'm not too familiar with trim systems. I was hopeing someone could enlighten me on my problem. After a day at the beach with the engine trimed all the way up it is difficult to get it back down. It's a Mercruiser Bravo I drive. To get it down I have to raise and lower the drive several times. Each successive time it goes down lower and lower until it's all the way down. The level on the reservoir is fine. Any Ideas? The drive is 5 years old and the boat is stored out of the water. Saltwater use only.

I would first check all electrical connections to your tilt motor.Make sure that they are all clean as a new penny and don't forget the ground. You don't describe this problem well enough to give further advice. Do'es this thing work and then get slower and slower 'til it quits? If so the advice given may help you.

The fluid level is good. And the trim doesn't quit or slow down at all. In fact it sounds as if the pump/motor/whatever is running but nothing happens. It just doesn't want to return the unit to the down postion without wome help from me. That help being: running it up and down, up and down. Each time it will go down a little further until finally after playing with it for a few minutes it will return to the down postion.

sounds like the valving in the pump is sticking...try cracking the lines where they connect to the cyls., see if it drops...the valves in the pump are NOT serviceable, replace the pump....

That resivior may be full but the oil that is in it might have turned into a geloutinous goo.I have seen this rarely but it does happen and causes your exact symtoms.

Thanks bond-o, I'll play with the lines tommorrow. What are you suggesting exactly by cracking? Hondon, is the fluid in the trim system supposed to be a thin viscosity. I did notice it seemed kind of thick. I'll check again and pay more attention this time. If that's the case is there a way to drain and refill the system?
