Trim guage disagreement

Just purchased a 2001 Monterey 302 Cruiser. I have fixed all the little problems, (hot water High pressure valve leaking, trim switches sticking, shore power plug loose, etc. etc. etc.) and the trim tab indicators are next. The boat has dual Volvo our-drives with Chevy 5.0L engines.

The indicators seem to work but are out of sync with each other and not sure that they are set right with the correct engine position.

The Mercury out-drives that I had before the adjustment was on the right side of the transom mount under the water. Where is the Volvo adjustment and can they be adjusted without hauling the boat out of the water? Do you just loosen them and rotate as with the Mercury? What is the correct way of adjusting the indicator?
I would assume that you would just have a second person at the helm and tilt the engine all the way down, then move the sending unit to reflect that position and then verify that it is correct when in the full up position. But again, can this be done without hauling the boat. Gonna have to wait till the water is a tad bit warmer if the can be adjusted while the boat is in the water. Not a big deal as the boat seems to plane pretty good without any tilt and then just a little "up" as you get on plane but it is there and it is supposed to work.:)

Re: Trim guage disagreement

According to my marina mechanic (whom I trust), V-P trim indicators don't lend themselves well to absolute adjustment. I don't recall exactly what he told me, but it made sense at them time, and they're different from Merc.

Rather than spend a lot of time (money) trying to get them exact, I told him to try and get them synched up with each other. When underway I adjust according to the boat's attitude and GPS readings rather than what the indicator says.

I just want to know that the 2 drives are tilted the same amount when the indicators say that they are. I'm going to try, before the boat goes in the water, to adjust the drives so they're both in 'running' trim, then make a mental note or mark the indicators to give me a baseline setting.

Well, that's the plan, anyway :)

Not an expert by any means, but I had the same issue. The service tech at the marina told me VP trim senders were not a servicable or adjustable part. Not sure if that is true or not, but they replaced the sender at their cost so I am guessing he was right.

That could be- maybe that's what he was trying to explain to me.
