Trim Gauge Trouble

The trim gauge on my console dash does not work. I have a 2004 Merc 115 HP saltwater 2stroke. Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong with it? Shouldn't it give me indication of the trim of my motor? Right now, the gauge never moves. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If the guage is in the down position ck. for a unplugged or broken wire, if not ck. the cirurt by groundind the sender wire, if in the up position un plug the sender it shold go down, if it does sound like a sender, if it don't you have a shorted wire in the system--Bob
