I have a 2000 Maxum SC2300 with 5.0 liter Merc and
Alpha I drive. All of a sudden this weekend the
trim gauge is not working properly. The drive will
move up and into the trailer position and all the
way down as it should but the gauge will reflect
the correct position. (full down only shows half
way on the gauge.) Fluid is full and clean no sign
of any leaking. Any suggestion what to look for?
Thanks,
Mark

Re: Trim gauge not working properly

On the starboard side of the drive where it pivots on the gimble housing is a plastic cover with two screws. Remove this cover and clean these contacts inside the cover. This is the trim sending unit for the gage. On the port side for your information is the trim limit sendor.

After you clean it re-install the cover. With the screws a little loose lower the drive all the way down. With the key on turn the plastic cover and watch the gage. Adjust the cover to the full down on the gage.

Thanks Trent,
I am guessing that this needs to be done out of
the water? If so, I will have to wait until it's
hauled out. I'll clean both sensor to be safe!
Mark
