Trim gauge hook up

I am almost there. The last part I am hooking up is my trim gauge. This is an Omc Part number 174679. What I have on the back of this unit is G=ground,I-ign,and S for sender. The question is there is some sort of resistor across the I and S. I am not sure if the purple wire is supposed to go on the Ign and sender wire on the S terminal with this somewhat resistor, in series. This is for a 1988 Johnson 110 vro engine. The trim plugs into the wire harness, No Problem, but I have two wires left over. One is a black wire with a round spade for a screw, and the other is a white wire with a gold or tan stripe. Thank you for any and all responses. Happy Holidays to all. Jack :)

Re: Trim gauge hook up

Jack..... Purple wire should be a 12 volt power line but only with the ignition switch in the on position.

Purple wire goes to the "I" terminal.

Black wire goes to the "G" terminal.

White wire goes to the "S" terminal.

Your explanation somewhat confuses me ie.... the trim plugs into the harness but you have two wires left over??? However, the wires connecting to the guage should be as above.

Hi Jack, from my experience Joe is da man when it comes to OMC. The only help I can offer is I found websites from faria gauges and a site from teleflex gauges have downloadable schematics for all gauge hookups.Give it a try. I remember reading somewhere on there about the use of resistors or maybe diodes.Goodluck. :)
