trim cylinder rod damage?

My new boat went back to the factory for a repaint last fall. After unwrapping it I noticed these marks on the trim cylinders.

Slight mark on the port side.

They are not sharp. I was going to dress them with a stone as I have done for years on my bike stanchions. The trim cylinders are extended at this point and don't seem to be leaking. I have no idea how this type of thing could have happened.
Could it have been here all along and I never noticed it? Future problems?

It's normal marks. There is a metal scraper ring in the end cap that keeps barnacles and other sea creatures from getting to the seal. The scraper ring will leave some marks.
