Do I need the Mercruiser pin tool to remove the cap ends of my trim cylinders? I'd normally just use a pin wrench. Does it normally take bunches of heat & torque to turn the caps on a freshwater, but older boat?

Re: Trim cylinder pin wrench

you can try with a regular spanner wrench and some light heat/oil

i have found that even with the merc tool some of those caps are a bear to get off

you may just have to give up and order new trim cylinders, $$$!!!

And with new cylinders you get fresh threads and seats for the hoses...

Re: Trim cylinder pin wrench

I am too cheap to replace the trim cylinders. I will struggle for hours to save a couple of bucks. Then I will complain about all the work I did!
Actually I'm pretty decent at freeing stuck stuff. I bet I can turn those caps without using flame.
Either way its' academic at this point, I'll do it in April when the snow is melting.
