I have a 1989 alpha one that uses 30wt oil for the trim unit. It was operating in a noisy and slugish manner so I replaced the 30wt oil with DextronII and the trim is now quiet and work great. I was wondering if thier is a recommended fluid for mercruiser trim cylinders. Dextron is a more stable hydraulic fluid than plain motor oil.

Re: trim cylinder oil compatibility

My Type 1 uses 20 wt. I'd suggest using whatever is recommended by MerC.

Walt
