Re: trim button on throttle

what do i look for. i have tried touching the wires together and that will not even trim the motor. but the side button on the motor works just fine even when u push the trottle down and try to trim it nothing. look and chased the wires back to motor and nothing seems to be worn into. and the fuse is good. i am lost on this one

Re: trim button on throttle

get a meter and see if you are getting power at the motor when you operate the control switch. could just be a dirty, corroded connection.

Find where the throttle control wires end, at the engine.

Disconnect them. There are three wires.

Red=Battery Positive

Blue=Up

Green=Down

With an Ohm meter, check continuity between the red and the other two while having someone operate the switch. It is probably your connection.

their is no power coming of them. i put the meter on the red and one on the blue and my son to hit the trim and nothing, same as the green. I check and made sure the cables on the batter are connected and things look good their no corrisive.

I think you need to be looking for continuity, not voltage.
Unplug the main connector at engine.
With meter set to Ohm , put it across the wires at the controler and at the engine end to find broken wire in the harness.
If the meter pegs the wire is ok, if it doesn't move the wire is broken.
Use a wire extention to reach between engine and controler.

Re: trim button on throttle

Does that setup not have the 2 wire connection from the trim switch that goes back to the relay box near the transom?
I had the same problem one time and it was the connection from the control trim switch where it plugs in near the relay box.
Mine was a 2 wire connector that was corroded.

Re: trim button on throttle

cant realy tell if corroded is goes behind a panel that i think is the power pack or panel of some sort. there is two box looking things that remind me of fuses but cant realy look behind to see where the three wires come in at. I will just take it to the local marine and check with them. thanks for the help

The box at the engine is the relay box. The amphenol plug on the way to the helm is 5 wires. The greatest weakness is at that plug.

If you get nothing from the switch at the helm then you are not getting voltage to the switch or it would work one direction or the other.

The diagram is approximately what you would find at your engine.
