Hey Everyone.I have a 1993 BassTracker TX 17.It came with a Trim Assist Cylinder & I am Pretty Sure the Cable is Bad.Sometimes it Works but Most of the Time I have to take a Pair of Needle Nose Pliers & Twist the End of the Cable down by the Cyl & Then it Will Lower or Raise Easy. What I Need to know is How Do I Replace this Cable,I read on here where someone was trying to replace his but he was having a Real Hard time getting the Cable End out of the Cylinder.I would just like to get some kinda ideal as to how it comes off & goes back on.Thanks & any help would be Appreciated.

Re: Trim Assist Cable Installation

Hey, I'm working one of those right now! I have a 1990 tracker pro deep v17. It has a 40 HP Johnson. It's a new project for me. The tilt had not worked for years is the the story from the previous owner. To get the engine to tilt, i had to pull the lower mounting bolt. It's about 12" long, and it's used to set the trim.
You may have to remove it to gain access. On the trim assist cyl. there is a large nylon nut. Remove it, then the cable can be removed from the cyl. there are two retainers at the other end. If the nut securing the SS retaining tab, don't brake it, just bend the tab. the cable will pop off the other retainer, & handle. If you are lucky like me, the cable can be salvaged with some oil. OK, now for my question. Does the cylinder expand if you pull the lever, or does it just sit there? Mine does not seem to do anything. If I pull the lever I can pull or push the cylinder, expanding or compressing it. My problem was the nylon connector which attaches it to the lever was broken. The cable was nearly frozen. I fabed a new connector, but I'm not sure the thing works.

mine expands, you may have a bad cylinder, which is replacement only, no repairs.

Well I figered as much. I have a none assit cylinder:mad:
I expected it to expand just like a gas cyl, or a gas shock.

Thanks.
Now it looks like the cable mounting clip is going to break as well.
