Trigger wear

I have a 1999 40hp force. I replaced the trigger 2 years ago. This weekend I inspected everything and noticed wear on the inside collar of the trigger. The inside collar is smooth black plastic with raised humps. One of the humps is wore down to bare metal. The motor is not running as smooth as last year.

Is this trigger wear normal of possibly my problem. I had previously thought maybe ethanol gas was the culprit.
