Wow, that thing must have been connected to some sort of external power source, right?

I have seen a " tuna melt " ------Never seen one of those damaged like that.

Haven't had this motor long. Hard starting , won't idle right. Think I found problem, charging coil melted to. Think a overheat problem cause head gasket replaced before I bought it.

I'd say something is improperly wired, somewhere, or wires shorted together somewhere. I have no idea where or how. But I will say that there normally would be no connection between the sensor and battery (or battery charger).

Think for I bought it, had a overheat problem. A new head gasket was put on before I got it. It has been hard to start and won't idle. The charging coil melted too

Looks like somebody hooked a battery up wrong on that 20 / 25 / 30 HP motor.
