Trick to dropping lower unit? 1983 7.5hp

Got the 3 bolts out, but my lower unit will only separate 1/4" then sticks.
Don't want to break anything forcing it to pull loose.
Did above in Neutral setting.

What's the trick for getting it to drop free for removal?

All advice and experiences welcome.

You might want to look up the gearcase schematic,But I think theres a retaining ring on the shift rod that needs removed,I have done others with a cotter pin,BUT this motor I havent done one.The schematic shows a retaining ring.
Someone will most likly post how to's
