I'm a relative new arrival on the boating scene, and as with most people, I have been looking at larger boats or specifications for them. What I find nearly the zenith of 'cool' as far as boats go, and of course my opinion only, is that I'm finding the 'Pilgrim' trawlers to my liking. I'm speaking of the later 40' & 42'er's. They have that appearance of something you might see in a 30's or 40's movie, with the upright bow and long cabin and above hoist & rowboat. This is such a classic looking boat, unlike the hourdes of sleek mega trawler affairs. Nothing against the later boats, it's just the charictor of the Pilgrims that enchants me. Would anyone suggest a popular boat maker who's styling is similar, with that tugboat-ish look. Thanks ....Rich

How about Ranger Tugs? I saw one up close at the Strictly Jersey Boat Show a couple of weeks ago. Pretty classic looking.

krogan. A friend had a 46'. the old ones have lots of wood inside and topside. Slow, but all summer on one tank. Rides nice in choppy water since they are deep and heavy.

Get yourself a subscription to Passage Maker magazine. It's right up your alley and probably the best boating mag out there.

These are not classically styled, but if you wanted to build an extremely nice riding, fuel efficient, comfortable and low maintenance trawler-style boat, with absolutely no compromises in safety, this is how you'd do it it: http://setsail.com/fpb-97-a-wicked-intro/ .
