Recently our daughter took our Stingray out and after getting it in the water found that the battery wasn't fully charged. They were about to haul it out (afraid that the alternator wasn't working) when a Good Samaritan pulled out a charger and charged it for them. It was not hooked up to electricity. This charger evidently stored power for use in situations where there was no electricity available. Does anyone know what this charger is called and where we can get one? We want to be able to charge a 12 volt marine battery in an emergency.

Sounds like a portable 12 volt jump starter, also known as a jump box and a good one will cost you a hundred and a half or better. But fully charged will start just about any "ting".

You can always pull the boat battery out and use jumper cables to charge the boat battery from the vehicle on high idle...I use a screwdriver under the throttle stop for a higher idle.

Works pretty good, full charge in no time..

Those jump start boxes are not "chargers" by any stretch of the imagination. Connected to a discharged battery, they give you one chance to start the engine so the engine can charge the battery. If you need a jump box, you need to do some electrical system work as the battery is in need of replacement, the charging system is not working, or you are leaving things turned on.
