I have a feeling that none of the fish finders will give you a good reading at high speed. I have a raymarine and it does the same thing. above 25MPH it will get lost quite often, I guess it just is not fast enough to recieve the echo. Fast enough is probably incorrect. what I really mean, is the angle or spread of the transducer is so narrow that by the time the sound wave bounces back to the surface, the boat is not there to recieve it...... just a guess......

One thing you can try is to put the tranducer in a plastic bag full of water and move it around the bottom of the boat. Find the spot that works the best. Then clean and glue it to the boat with epoxy type glue.

Your boat is not going too fast for the instrument. The speed of sound in water is 3000 miles per hour. Either:

The transciever is in bubbles of air sliding under the hull, or

It is moving up and aiming horizontally instead of vertically.

In the first case, probably not much you can do, since you've tried three times. Might hang over the transom (probably best while someone else is driving and you are wearing a vest)or following in another boat to see if you can find a "bubble free zone".

In the second case, adjust the tension on the mounting bracket. You want it to swing away if you hit a solid object, but otherwise stay down. I installed an Eagle (Lowrance) with the teardrop sensor and had to fiddle with this.

Good luck.

I have the same issue with my Lowrance on my Rinker 21'. The problem is, the transducer is permanently mounted on the outside of the hull in the rear, right before the outdrive. If the issue is the transducer is in bubbles at high speed, how do I fix? Would a small fin mounted just before the transducer help prevent the bubbles?

Your problem is very normal. Aluminum boats with rivets make a lot of bubbles. Two things you can do is lower the transducer deeper in the water and in the area with the least bubbles. Good location usually right next to speed pickup.

Second try adjusting your unit. Not sure which one you have but two thing that help is decreasing the sensitivey and turn on surface clutter discrination to a higer lever. Both these things will make it harder to see fish. The surface clutter filter only affects the top 1/3 to 1/2 of the water. Sensitivy affects every thing will need to reset when slow down. cant see fish over about 10 mph anyway as by time get two or three strobes fish is no longer in cone angle.
Some newer units automaticly adjust sensitivy.
I have a 21 foot Crestliner aluminum boat and I always see bottom both fresh and salt but I do have to adjust. If you have a fiberglass boat Trent idea is great for shoot thru hull. Can't do it on aluminum, wood, and some hand layup Glass.
