TRANSOM TILT/TRIM SWITCH WIRING

I bought a transom trim switch at basspro shop for my 40hp yamaha,(transom trim control TTC-1) made by ht marine the instructions say blue wire to blue wire in harness green to green harness wire pruple to pruple harness wire I found the blue and green but can't locate the purple what does the purple do, and where is it can anyone help help help

Hi Stanley...<br /><br />The purple wire is usually ignition or the "hot" wire. Supply's battery power to the switch.

can I run the purple wire to the battery or to the switch, what is the thing on the motor that the blue and green wire is screwed to is it a solonoid switch or what?

stanley<br />Blue is UP, Green is DOWN, Purple or Red is HOT. Run it to the battery HOT. Yes, they are the selonoids that the red/green hook to.

You said red and green did you mean to say blue and green to solonoid? can I loosen the screws on the solonoid and tie the blue and green there with out splicing into the wire

Sorry, Yes I meant Blue/Green to selonoid and purple to hot. You can wire them directly to the other wires at the solenoids.

I ran the purple to the battery and the wire began to get warm switch wouldn't work where does it get its ground, is that why you should go to switch

The switch should gets it's ground from mounting it, if it doesn't have a ground wire. Do you have it mounted yet?

no I was holding it in my hands and the wire got warm going to battery, the switch would do nothing so I quit, scared i would burn something up.

The switch does not need a ground. The blue & green wires should be going to the SMALL posts on the trim solenoids. You also should have a fuse in line on the purple wire if you are going to connect it right to the battery.
