Transom service

I have a 1989 5.7 mercruiserI/O w/Alpha One outdrive. How can I tell whether the outdrive is M/MR/GenII...? I have been looking at the mercruiser parts manual and can't figure out which transom service kit to buy. I think it is 30-8-3-97T1. I also have two part numbers for the U-joints, but are they not the same? The part numbers I have are 75832T1 and 805536A2.<br />Any other parts I should replace while I have it down? Thanks!

an "MR" drive has the letter "A" or "M" stamped on the end of the prop shaft.GEN 2 didn't start until '91.make sure you check all the bellows-including/especially the lower shift cable bellows-even though it's small i've seen it almost sink a boat! check shift cable also.

89, Should be an Alpha1... I'd replace the lower shift cable, you'll be right there.. besides, your overdue....If it's original...
