Picked up transom saver for outboard, had no instructions for setting the proper angle of motor.Should the motor be tilted as high as possible,45 degress or mass of motor weight directly over transom.
well what kind is it? I dont think it really matters as long as you have enough ground clearence for your boat motor and the road. I just put one on my 2000 trophy 2352 and from what the directions said the angle isnt as important as road clearence. As long as the skeg is clear the saver will support the motor regardless. Is it the kind that goes from the trailer to the motor or from the power tilt cylinder to the motor. The kind from the cylinder to the motor arent as good. They dont really save your transom just the hydraulic cylinders. The motor still bounces as it goes down the road. Hope this helps
It's not so much the angle of the engine, it's the fact that the opposite end of the saver will be resting on the frame of the trailer (or the lowest point of the transom), thus supporting the weight of the lower unit.
You want as much of the motor's weight on the transom saver as possible. So set it for the minimum ground clearance you will need This will reduce the motor bouncing. Put a bungee cord on the motor to the trailer to hold the motor in place.
I set mine up and have the transom saver to take all the bouncing out of the motor, so there is no slop at all in either direction. Then I attach a bungee cord top and one on bottom so it can't come out.
