Transom Saver Positioning

I just received my first transom saver, which I ordered from Cabelas. It is frame mounting.

First off, its not at all what I expected. I received a plain brown box with parts strewn about in it and some partially handwritten photocopied directions. Which are terrible FYI.

Here's my question(s).

In the directions it says you can lock the t.s. into the vertical adjustment slot of the rear keel roller if available. This is how I have it "secured" to the trailer. Is this sufficient?

Secondly where should the "V" support portion of the t.s. rest again the lower unit?

Thirdly, I do not have power tilt/trim. How should I position my motor for trailering with the t.s. installed? Should I use the furthest tilt position available so I can use the lock built into the motor while resting it again the t.s.?

I hope all this makes sense, and that someone can clear this up for me.

Thanks,

Matt

Re: Transom Saver Positioning

The "v" should rest below the cav. plate. Without power trim and tilt, you may have a hard time by your self, placing the motor in it. You would need help and find a way to tie in the motor to the saver so when you run over a bump in the road, the motor does not fly up and drop the saver, bang the motor against the transom a couple of times, etc.

It has a thick rubber cord which holds the motor to the saver. It is very tight and hard to stretch across by myself.

Sounds like I have the saver in the correct position at least.

Matt

Hey be sure you've got the frame mount end secure. Think about what would happen if you hit a big bump while driving at highway speed and the frame mount end comes loose. Might be a little hard on your transom.

I bought a set of these from Cabelas for my twin Honda 130's. The roads around Alaska are some of the worst but I am very happy with these units. I drilled another mounting hole in the frame mount because the offset predrilled hole worked great for one side but not the other.
