Transom Mounting Plate

I wish to mount a transducer on the transom of my new boat. I like the idea of a transom mounting plate. What is the best way to secure the mounting plate onto the transom? Do you just seal the screws or do you seal the entire surface of the plate?<br /><br />Thanks

Seal the entire mounting surface with a silicone sealant and be sure to use backing plates for all the attach points.<br /><br />Good luck
