I hope this is the best place to post such a thread on chum churns. I thought I'd post it elsewhere but most of the other sections are not about fishing. Chum churns are definitely about fishing....

Anyway, chum churns can be IMPOSSIBLY MESSY in a small boat. So, I modified one and mounted it on the tansom. Has turned out really well.

Rather than repeat all that was said on another forum I'll just post the link here.

I have corresponded with the makers of the chum churn for more than a year off and on about how to go about modifying the churn for this purpose...without much encouragement. Indeed, one guy there seemed quite put off at the suggestion that the thing once brought aboard seemed to spill chum all over my deck and make it dangerous to walk on. Essentially, he said, if you want a great product bad enough you'll find a way to accommodate it's short-comings.

He was right. I did. See the thread.

Re: Transom Mounted Chum Churn

Something like this has been a back burner project in my mind for a year now. Thanks for the post and congratulations on improving a device that was close to coming to market!:D

I, too was thinking about 12v motors to power mine or a macerator as well. I hear the fishbox ones can grind up small bones. I wanted to make my own using a bigger piece of pvc..3-4" seems like it could work. Your modification is commendable! Good job...
