I am preparing to put a new depth finder on my 1976 Aquasport 170 Open Fisherman. Looking for advice on transducer placement on the transom. Upper outside edge, or deeper on the Vee, more towards the center of the Vee??? I have seen both done, but have no clue which is best for performance. Any thoughts for best placement??

Re: Transom Mount Transducer Placement

1 sure way to find an optimal mounting place is to have someone drive the boat while you look down at the transom. Find the spot with the least amount of turbulence and you've found the best place to mount the transducer.

Re: Transom Mount Transducer Placement

General rule of thumb is to keep the transducer about 12" to either side of the prop. The reason is to prevent turbulence from the transducer from causing the prop to ventilate.

The transducer must be in a "clean" flow of water at all times. No obstructions on the hull forward of the transducer.
