Re: Transom Mount Fish Finder??

Tranducers work best when the very bottom is level with, or just slightly (1/18th") below the very bottom of the hull....

The "pointy" end should be facing "forward" or towards the bow of the boat.
The "face" or bottom of the transducer should be facing downward...as close to straight down as you can get it.

The "face" is on the opposite side from where the cable comes out.

Preferred mounting location is on the starboard side, well outside the swing of the prop.

You boat shows a level mounting location so any angles are minimal.

Re: Transom Mount Fish Finder??

Mount the transducer on the starboard side of transom down at the bottom so the face of the transducer is about level with the bottom of the boat and in an area where there is smooth water flow(not near a strake or rib or anything on the bottom that makes turbulence or bubbles), that might interfere with the signal. The transducer is shaped like a little bomb or airplane with the nose pointed in the direction of the boat. You don't want the transducer to hang down below the bottom of the hull since you could damage it while beaching or crossing a log or something. If it's flush with the boat bottom then it will be an inch or so under water even while your boat is running at speed. Use the screws for mounting and seal around with silicone or other suitable caulking to prevent leaks, run wire up and over transom to your unit, secure wire with little clips so they don't get hung up on something. Really not much to it, maybe you have instructions with your unit.
Good Luck!

Also, loosen that little nut on the side to allow you to rotate the transducer head down flush with the surface of the water. That nut should be just tight enough to hold the transducer head in place, but allow it to swivel up if if ever hits something in the water.

If you haven't already installed it, go to www.humminbird.com and you can download the manual for your unit. It gives all the installation instructions. My transducer looks just like yours and I have an aluminum boat as well. Didn't want to drill holes in the boat. If you don't get it right the first time, you end up with extra holes in your transom. I went to Home Depot and bought a piece (4" X 6" X 1" thick) plastic fence trim and mounted the transducer to that. Then I glued the plastic block to the transom at the appropriate place. Use 3M 5200 Marine Adhesive Sealant. Works like a champ and no holes in the boat !!

Re: Transom Mount Fish Finder??

I attached my transducer for my Humminbird 550 fish finder using the suction cup adapter HB makes for their portable units, eventhough my unit isn't "portable". This way you can experiment with the best location without drilling holes in your transom.
