My friends bout has a Merc 175 and there is a cross brace on the outside blocking the drain to the transom area. Any ideas? Can we modify this cross member? thanks

bmurray<br />You don't say what boat, but a jackplate can be advantagous on many boats. This clears the hole, of course it may require longer steering cables, throttle and shift cables. It may increase speed 2-4 mph but you may have to buy another prop. Or you could drill a 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16" or 1/2"<br />hole. Or you could plug the current hole and relocate to a drainable location, buy another motor, or buy another boat. Pick one.<br />Backfire ;)

it is on a Checkmate, both are 79 models. What is the crossmember for on the outside? I was considering drilling it out. Thanks
