Hello All!
New first-time boat owner here with what is probably a newbie question I'm hoping you all can help me out with.
Boat: 1986 14ft Fiberking Bomber Scout
The transom drain plug was extremely corroded and I am in the process of replacing it. I easily pulled out all the little remaining bits of the old drain tube and am working on drying out the core (around the drain) so my Loctite PL Marine Fast Cure Adhesive Sealant will dry when installing my new tube.
The core of the boat around the drain tube is rotted (and saturated), so I began pulling out rotted core, bit-by-bit. Now that I am getting to solid core, I need something to fill the surrounding area (of the core) in preparation for the new drain tube. The holes in the transom are in pretty good shape so I don't think I need to do any rebuilding there, but I feel like I need something to pack the (now) empty area around where the drunk tube will go.
Does anyone here have any recommendations for the product (and manufacturer) I would use to fill the core with in my particular situation? If I am going about this all wrong, and there is a completely different process for this type of repair, I am open to suggestions there as well.
Thank you for any information you can provide here. I appreciate any feedback that can be offered.
Cheers,
-Matt
