I have a Lund 1993 Pro Angler 1700 tiller rated for 60 hp. It has a 40 hp 1994 Johnson 2 stroke tiller on it. Would it be ok to mount a 114 lb Tohatsu 25 hp 2 stroke along side as a back-up or do you think that would be too much weight on the transom?? I guess that's no heavier than a 10 hp 4-stroke which I also have. Most people seem to think I shouldn't be going out on Lake Erie without a backup. And a 10hp would take a while to cover 4 or 5 mile.

Re: transom capacity

Is the transom sound?
Will it support a teenager sitting on it?

It should be fine.

You are not going to plane the hull with either of those motors, so use the most reliable of the two.

You would technically be over the HP capacity of the boat. Strange, but true.
