Transom Assembly Swap

Hi All,

Been following this site for a while, appreciate the wealth of knowledge here i've been able to tap into. Started in on a project. 1990 Bayliner Regal bowrider, infamous 470 4 cylinder with the standard issues, pulled engine, fixed all the common stuff and its done and ready to go. Gimbal housing is very corroded from a life of sitting in the water (freshwater - upper New York). Gimbal ring is very sloppy on the steering shaft so I snagged another gimbal housing (basically everything from the transom to the bell housing) that I was going to swap with existing corroded one. Part number on existing transom assembly is 0C420866 and 'new' transom assembly is 0B449524. When I type this in a parts lookup I found through this site it says my existing one is Alpha and my 'new' one is MC1. I'm sticking with the outdrive that I have, it's an alpha rebuilt and in great shape. Will this swap work? I've spend several nights going over the two assemblies and they appear to be identical. Previous owner took the assembly off a late 80's boat - according to him - that he was replacing with a bravo after doing an engine swap. (My engine serial number is C677398 - just so you have all the info :)
Thanks for any input or advise.

MC1 would not have been in use in the late 80s. If he did take it off a late 80s boat, it has been recycled already. I have a 1980 Sea Ray with the MC1 transom assembly and an SEI 106 (aftermarket Alpha 1) outdrive. They mate together just fine.

Will this swap work?

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,.... Those are the serial numbers, not part numbers,.....

'n Yes, it'll work,....

Without runnin' the numbers, I believe the 0Bxxx will come back as a slightly earlier Alpha 1,....
