Transmission Squeal Problem

I have dual 8.2 Mercruisers with Hurth 630v transmissions. I just got the boat a few weeks ago and last week all of a sudden both transmissions started acting up. Both the starboard and port emit a high pitched squeal when I go into gear (both forward and reverse) it is more pronounced on the starboard side than the port. The first thing I checked was the fuid levels and found that the previous owner had over filled them by 64oz a side! I drained them down to regular levels but the squeal still persists. It's WAY worse on the starboard side than the port. Any ideas?

Re: Transmission Squeal Problem

Are you sure it's the transmissions, or is it possibly coming from the stuffing boxes just aft of the trannsmissions?

What do you mean by "stuffing boxes"? I am not super technical so laymans description would be super helpful.

sounds like it is the pressure plate. the previous owner over filed the fluid which probably hyper extended the plate. Can I run the rest of the season and get it done over the winter?
