Transmission Leak, does motor have to come out??

Hi there guys, just finally got on top of all issues with the new boat (90's 34 ft Bayliner Avanti twin 454's V drive) only to discover that on last test run we developed a leak i beleive to be from the seal on the output shaft (was too gutted to properly investigate will do so today). All the red fluid has drained(none measuring on dip stick) Just wondering if the transmission can be removed without lifting the motor forward??? As it is on the Port side there is an engine hatch below that opens right at the transmission so good access however not sure how much input shaft is inside the transmission as there is only a few inches clearance to move the transmission back off the motor.
Any advise much appreciated.

We are looking to remove the transmission our selves and send to the shop to fix as we are now out of money and broken men.:facepalm:

Are there mounts on the rear of the motor that will support the motor if the trans is removed? Is the V-drive bolted directly on the rear of the trans or is there a drive shaft between the trans and a v-drive unit? You will be unbolting the trans from the bellhousing and sliding back but not sure a few inches will be enough. Here is a picture of a borg warner trans where you can see the input shaft on front which goes into the bellhousing. The input shaft splines into the drive plate on the engine flywheel. Keep in mind trans in this picture is not set up for a v-drive so it has the tailstock on it for a sterndrive. Other than that the trans should look the same.

Thats mate for your reply, hopefully wont have to worry about it too much now, upon inspection i have discovered a bent shaft so should be an insurance claim, fingers crossed the policy is up to date.

Oh and looks from the pic in your link it would be real tight getting out without moving engine forward at least a little.
