Recently installed the 597ci HD DI to my trolling motor, I also purchased an additional transducer and quick connect base so I could use the unit from the steering console while under outboard power. Not concerned with get readings while running at 30-40mph, wanting to get good readings while idling or slightly faster. My question is where to mount the transducer on the transom. I've attached two photos: one is of the lower portion of the hull with the three holes representing the two live well drains(outside) as well as the drain plug(this part is recessed approx 11" from back of transom and 6" in depth), the second is of the far back edge of the transom located starboard side. The hull is actual bottom of the hull is stepped back? What I was wanting to know is could I mount the transducer between the drain plug and the live well drain on the starboard side? My local mechanic told me that at idle or slow speed I should trim the motor up because the exhaust ports on this motor/boat combo sit lower in the water compared to today. I was wondering if the prop being that close would cause any problems obtaining clean readings? With motor fully trimmed down the prop is still 2' from transducer. Or should I mount the transducer on the far back edge of the transom, problem being I'm not sure where water line is while under idle or slightly faster speed? Obviously want to limit the amount of holes I put in the hull so needing any and all help.
