Transducer Locations

I recently purchased a boar with twin stern drive engines. The boat came with 2 hummingbird depth/fish finders. The transducers are mounted on the bottom of the transom. I have read that this is NOT a good location because of turbulence. Where is the best place to locate these.

Re: Transducer Locations

If you are having trouble with lost signals and so on, I wouldn't blame the transducers right away. My experience with humminbirds has not been good.

If you are worried about where they are located and you have a fiberglass boat, you can mount them inside the hull and shoot thru. As long as the bottom of the boat remains fairly clean, this application works good.

Any good finder will have instructions on how to mount the trans. inside the hull.

I won't comment on Hummers, but I do know from experience that, any sort on turbulance or sometimes bubbles, grass, etc will give false readings.I quite often reach overboard to clean the bottom of the sensor, and the paddle wheel. Also do not put any bottom paint on them except the spray recommended by the mfr. All,of the manuals tell how to mount them.

Re: Transducer Locations

I managed to find the Hummer manuals online. They state that the transducers can be mounted on the inside of the hull with Hummingbird's Epoxy. DOes this have to be their epoxy or is there another type I can use. I am sorry to be bothersome however I have been out of boating since I was 14 and then my father took care of everything. You can forget alot in 15 years.

Thanks :)

Re: Transducer Locations

I would use the epoxy they specify, you won't need much, but it must allow the signal to go thru the epoxy and the Hull. Before you epoxy it in place have someone hold the transducer in place to see if and were you get good results on the screen.Any local store that sells the Humming should have the right stuff.By the way it's no bother Here to help when I can.
