tranny line blow out

I have a 1976 Searay 255 hp mercruiser. While coming in today I heard a loud pppsssss and now there is tranny fluid all in the bilge. The lines that I can see look ok. I am thinking it somewhere under the motor. How difficult is it to change a tranny line? Will the motor have to be pulled?

Loghomer, Your leak may be power steering fluid have you checked that? The power steering system uses tranny fluid and you surely would notice a difference in steering at slow speeds.The pump should be on the right side of the motor as you look astern and belt driven, there also should be a steering hydraulic ram mounted on top and behind the motor and as the cylinder ages it sometimes rusts through and leaks.There also may be a power steering cooler (heat exchanger)usually on starboard side of motor that can rupture or lose a line.
