I have a 1976 Searay 255 hp mercruiser. While coming in today I heard a loud pppsssss and now there is tranny fluid all in the bilge. The lines that I can see look ok. I am thinking it somewhere under the motor. How difficult is it to change a tranny line? Will the motor have to be pulled?

Re: tranny line blow out

Loghomer, Your leak may be power steering fluid have you checked that? The power steering system uses tranny fluid and you surely would notice a difference in steering at slow speeds. The pump should be on the right side of the motor as you look astern and belt driven, there also should be a steering hydraulic ram mounted on top and behind the motor and as the cylinder ages it sometimes rusts through and leaks. There also may be a power steering cooler (heat exchanger)usually on starboard side of motor that can rupture or lose a line.
