Re: Trailering

That's going to be a long haul. First thing that I would consider would be to make sure that all fluid levels are up, and spend a few bucks and make sure you have a trany cooler installed. If the mileage is high on the truck over 50,000 miles I would recommend having the trany serviced, that is a new filter and new fluid. Change the engine oil, make sure all the lights work, and MAKE sure that your trailer wheel bearings are good. These should be serviced also. Check your owner's manual for other trailering recommendations. have a good trip.

Re: Trailering

Thank You Kiya, For your input. I replaced both hubs complete on the trailer and took my truck to a certified mechanic and got a clean bill of health on the truck. The only thing that I didn't do was the tranny cooler and service which I will take care of today. My trip is on 04/03/03 so I better get a move on. I also replaced both tires and rims on the trailer and now I have two spares. Again thank you for input.

Re: Trailering

Depending on which route you take and the size of the hills you encounter, slow down on the bigger hills and leave the transmission in 3 going up and coming down. This will stop the transmission from constantly shifting in & out of overdrive. (This shifting is the worst cause of heat and transm. failure and using 3 on the way down will help to not abuse the brakes). Don't ever let your gas gauge go below a third when trailering and leave room for braking!!!!

Enjoy the trip and the canals of Cape Coral by boat.

Mike.
