Been around and on boats but this is my first I've owned. Picked it up about 6 weeks ago been on it alot. My question is this, this week end I'm going to be trailering it 4 hours to a good friend up north to do some REAL fishing. The weather looks to be nice. What's the opinions about trailering it with the cover on/off. The cover I have is custom fit and it fits. The cover is renforced at all the where points and seems pretty heavy duty. It says it's for trailering but doesn't have all that many straps. Second, there are afew places where the straps ride against the paint, this is aluminum boat painted. Do you put anything between the strap/paint surface?? Looking for any comments on covering do's/dont's. Not looking to shread my cover first time out.

Thanks

SingleShot

Re: Trailering with/without Cover

I have fitted cover for my boat too. I don't think I would trailer it for any distance with the cover on, especially at highway speeds. That puts a LOT of stress on the fabric, and don't imagine that's what they had in ming when they said it was trailerable :)

Re: Trailering with/without Cover

Singleshot, I trailer with my cover on all the time. (19' Four Winns) Just make sure it is pulled as tight as possible and you use the 1" straps to attach to trailer. These need to be as tight as possible. I don't let my straps touch my boat as they will eventually wear thru from the vibration. I put a couple of towels over the windows to prevent the edges of the windows wearing thru the cover. I've noticed no wear on the cover at all.

Singleshot i have trailed my boat over 8 hours on the road make sure you check to make sure it is tight like captain said and check it often. my boat has no poles to hold the cover up this makes it more stable. poles will work loose and fall. have had this happen and tear right through the first 50 miles on my old boat. good luck

Re: Trailering with/without Cover

Depends on the cover. I have a custom fitted cover but would NEVER trailer with it on. It secures with Bungies to the trailer. All the metal gromets flapping or grinding against the paint/gelcoat! No thanks.

Now if you have a cover that fits tight with Snaps, then go ahead.
