what is best is to trailer it with a motor support. don't depend on the trim and tilt as this adds stress to the system and the transom. some of my boats have plenty of clearance between the road and the foot, others have to be supported for proper clearance. all you do when trailering with out a support is have a tettering motor on top of the transom.

If you have at least a 12 - 18 inches clearance between the skeg and the ground with the motor vertical, that's the best way as it provides the least amount of stress on the motor and the transom. Otherwise, use the tilt lock. Better yet, use a transom saver. This transfers all shock loading to the trailer instead of the transom or motor.
