Re: trailer wiring
Going from 5 at the vehicle to 4 in the trailer has another possibility for a new and untried setup.
If the trailer plug has the flat 4 connector, then it's
probablly designed for the turn signals being the power for the brake lights.
Most newer vehicles have a separate wire for the brake lights, and that wire
is independent from the turn signal wires.
You may need to see if that is your predicament, and if it is, then you might
need a tail light adapter, costing about $28, which has what appears to be
a heavy duty flat 4 plug. It actually has some electrical circuitry in it. It takes
the 5 wires into it, being the brake light wire, right turn, left turn, parking lights, and ground wire.
The output from that plug results in the flat four
plug from the vehicle, being the right turn, left turn, parkings lights, and ground wire.
The color coding of yellow, brown, and green is pretty much standardized,
although it's best to use a tester to be sure. Someone could have changed
something. The tail light adapter kit I bought included a mini tester that
really worked, and that was a good thing because my van manual did not
list all the right color codes. Nightmare manual. Good luck, you can do it!
