1982 Celebrity Bow Rider
Probably 3800lbs with gas n gear.

With the OMC outdrive, I will not run it in gear with the tilt up. But quite a few times, the water gets to shallow to push it the last few inches under it's own power.

I've looked at bass pro, and all the winches are rated for about 1,400lbs, not enough to pul that pig up the last bit. Only thing they have that is even rated close to what I want is a $250 electric winch. Anyone know of a good place to try to find a beefy winch?

Re: Trailer winch

NDemge,

I think 1400# is too flimsy if you have a steep ramp, and it would have too little mechanical advantage unless you pump a lot of iron.

WEST Marine sells a good, 2 speed mechanical winch rated for 3200# that would probably do the job.

Good luck. :)

Re: Trailer winch

I'll check out West. Thanks.

Yeah, I know it's flimsy.... it died trying to load it friday.

I took the boat out for a test run friday before going to the lake... Decided to die right as we were loading it on the trailer, so couldn't push it up under it's own power. Used a 10klbs rachet strap to just secure it enough for the 10 mile run back home. I'm hoping I can put a new winch on and get it the rest of the way on the trailer (6 inches) without having to dunk it back in the river just to float it on.

Dam Friction.

Re: Trailer winch

Get a hand crank winch and crank it up my boat weighs every bit of that and I have no problems.

3200lbs hand winch on the way from West Marine.
I read a lot of reviews on the electric ones and just about everyone said.. "works great for a year, then just falls apart"

adding some side bunks to the trailer this weekend. almost impossible to load from the river, arse end just floats down stream
