I have GR 78-14 tires on poor solid 5-bolt rims on my older galv. trailer. The trailer carries a 20 ft boat of about 2500-3000 lbs. I want to replace these tires and wheels but the GR 78-14 doesnt seem to be a standard trailer size. What size tire and wheel would be best for this trailer. Thanks.

Re: trailer wheels/tires need to go

GR78-14's equate to about a 215/70-14 tire. A good tire shop should be able to do a more exact convertion. Make sure the new tires are rated or marked as "ST" for trailer use. Also the tire load range rating is important. Moving from a 14" to a 15" tire/wheel may not be an option as it will increase the overall trailer heigth and possibly rub the trailer finders. Goodyear Marathons will cost a little more but are well worth the money, as they wear well and are reliable.
