I have a recently bought trailer for my 14ft jon boat. The trailer has the old type of tounge for attaching to the ball that you screw on to tighten. I dont like this design because it could vibrate loose, and was wanting to switch to the new lever style. The old tounge is part of the trailer frame, so my only option would be to cut it off and buy a new coupler. My question is could I buy a large coupler and just put it over the old tounge? i dont see any problem in doing this, but wanted to know what you all thought. thanks

Re: trailer tounge

The new style couplers are made to fit over the tounge. Either you can weld or bolt them on. Just make sure it's a tight fit.
