trailer tongue too long for garage

We just bought a house and the garage is 1.5 ft too short for the boat and trailer. Measuring everything if I can remove 2' of trailer tongue I should be okay. Of course it has to be put back for towing. Has anyone put a hinge on the trailer tongue. I have seen some, I am just not sure how it all works. My other thought is to cut the tongue and put a sleeve inside the tubing and bolt and unbolt as needed. Any advice would be appreciated. You guys have always steered me straight before.

Have you try park the boat at an angle and trim the motor down and turn the steering wheel to one side. This will save you a couple feet. Other option is to take it to a trailer service place and they could install a swing away tounge on your trailer.

There's do-it-yourself folding tongue kits that work well for under $150. Google yourself a Fulton Folding Trailer Tongue. It doesn't appear that Iboats sells them, but Cabelas does, and so does Northern Tools.
