My tires on my trailer are dry rotted and one of them is no longer holding air.... I am assuming that I need to get a new set of tires when they start this. The tire size is G78-14ST. I was wondering if anyone knew how to convert this to modern size standards. Also what are the best kind and place to buy them.... I am kinda looking for used but I am not sure used tires are good either.... I have read here that truck tires are not the way to go either. If it help at all, they are for a '88 vanguard trailer.

Re: Trailer Tires

That should convert to a 215/75/R14 in the common metric sizing.

Edit: How did I ever put 15 as the rim size? Must be loosing it.

Re: Trailer Tires

They should have an "ST" as part of the tire designation, to indicate that they are designed for trailer duty.

That would be ST215/75D14 for bias-ply or
ST215/75R14 for radial.

That size radial may be hard to find.

Any local boat store should have the first ones.

Re: Trailer Tires

My trailer tires were dry rotted as well and I wound up getting new 14" tires and rims from boaters World for $99 each. No tax or shipping.

The tire places by me wanted $60 per tire plus mounting and balancing. It worked out cheaper getting everything from boaters world.

Re: Trailer Tires

if i buy new tires and rims, should the be the same size 14' tire or can they be diffrent. My boat has a dry weight of 2250 and I am halling it with a 98 ford ranger 3.0. I just don't want the thing to blow a tire and or bounce me and/or the boat off the road.
