I have a 19 foot cuddy on a shot EZ loader with rollers and bought a new EZ loader with rollers. The current trailer will not make it to the lake. Looking for advise how to put the boat on the new trailer. I thought about putting the new trailer (rear) to the front of the old and taking off the winch I could get the rollers off new to old about 3 feet apart then winching onto the new??? Any input apreciated
Thanks
Frank

Re: Trailer swapping without water

Evening FDW,
You are going to need about 18 old tyres. Some 4x2
softwood about 8 ft - 2 is enough. Four friends (strong is good) are also handy. A flat grassed area to work on.
Step 1.Remove everything from the boat that can move. Empty fuel tanks if possible. With the shot tlr hooked up to your car, reverse onto the work area. Trim your motor/leg right up & remove battery.Place 2 stacked tyres each side of the centre line & gently move the hull rearwards on the tlr until the bottom of the hull rotates down onto your tyres.
Step 2.Drive forward a few feet & add more tyres.
Repeat until the hull is on the ground supported by the tyres. Keep the nose high by using 3 or four in a single stack under the bow. The tyres at the stern will keep the hull stable but get the strong friends to hold it steady. Swap trailers.
Step 3. Reverse onto the boat & hook up your winch. Co-ordination needed now. You winch on whilst slowly reversing. The friends use the 4x2 on the chine (with some padding) to get it straight. Once the first couple of feet are on it is just a matter of taking your time & removing tyres as needed.. When you reach the point of balance your friends need to hang off the back end to let the nose down sloooowly.
Step 4. Use the 4x2 as kindling to get the Bar-B-Q
started to cook the steak to eat with the beers your'e gonna need.
I have done this several times when I rustproof my tlr. It is easy as long as you take it steady & have plenty of help. ;) ;) :D :D
Regards,
Peter

Option 2: (did this for my boat, same trailer problem)

2 Tractors with front end loaders
2 10,000 lbs Straps

Adjust new trailer as close as possible
Lift boat
Remove old trailer
Back in new trailer
Drop boat back down

I was really close when I adjusted my bunks, many meany measurements off old trailer and boat.
I had to move one of my bunks about an inch or so.. I used floor jacks to hold up the boat a lil bit, and another to lift the bunk

here is a picture:
...and a link to all the pictures when I moved the boat
http://www.emgebros.com/noel/boatpics/

What I did was to lower the trailer tongue as far as possible and block the stern of the boat. Then I raised the tongud and put a blocked-up 4 x 4 under the keel as far forward as I could. Lowered the tongue, pulled out the old trailer, pushed the new trailer under and reversed the sequence to lower the boat onto the new trailer.

back trailer to a large tree. have plenty of pieces of 4"x4"s. tie stern of boat to tree. loosen winch line. slowly pull out, allowing the boat to come off the trailer. when you have a few feet out, block the stern. continue process, slowly pulling trailer, letting winch line out, and blocking keel (some 4"x4"s cut with a v helps). boat will soon be off the trailer. back new trailer under bow and attach winch line. put vehicle in neutral. slowly winch trailer and vehicle under the boat, removing blocks as you go.

boat stays tied to tree the whole time. may need a large jack to help get boat up and off the blocks. i did this last week, and taking my time, it worked well.

Re: Trailer swapping without water

My buddy and I did this to his boatlast year (so he could work on the trailer). He bought a small pulley with a hook(come along style) on it. We hooked it to the back of the trailer. then ran the winch cable thru it amd hooked it back on the bow eye. Now when you crank the winch it starts walking the boat off the trailer. With the hook we were able to move it around if necessary. As the boat comes off the trailer block it up. He borrowed some boat stands from his marina. Worked great. Then just crank it back on the new one.

Pulley was similar to this one pulley block

I like the flooding the garage Idea!

I did this a few years back when I wanted to paint my trailer! I used the truck tire trick, Most tire shops will lend you some old tires! I did it in my garage as it was raining and I kike to keep my boats out of the elements as much as I can! I screwed some eyes into the foundation and tyed the boat in the back to them then slowly pulled the bout off the trailer as already desribed! Then when done, just cranked it back on! This wouldnt work for a very large boat though!!

Hasbeen
