After i got it out i notised the keel rolers ar not touching the boat all the weight is on the bunk boards and nothing is alustible, my ? is
1, is the boat supposed to sit on the rollers and the bunks?
2,Does any one know of a kit to make a trailer a roller or easy loader?

Re: Trailer problem

On my bunk trailer, the rollers only come into play when loading. After the boat is loaded the keel doesn't touch the rollers at all. And that's the way it's supposed to be. And my bunks are adjustable in the front only.

Ernie every boat is different as it pertains to the keel roller

You have to ask your boat mfg wether the stern needs to be supported by the roller or not

My boat does not, it just uses the roller as a guide to guide the boat on.

The back of my boat sits on the bunks but the front sits on a roller and nose guide.

If your still not sure take your boat and 2 dealers and take your boat there and look at the other boats and ask his opinion about your setup.

My bunks are adjustable but when i got the boat from my dad he just had it sitting on one bunk leaning to one side.

Also their are some bunk lubes around that might make it easier to load also make sure the bunks are wet when you load that makes it easier as well.

Practice your power load as well - that is where you gun the engine a little to push the boat up onto the bunks so you do not have to retrieve as far.

As far as the roller kits - my guess it would be easier to just trade your trailer for a roller one but I know you can buy the rollers assemblies from the mfg but it really is a matter of fitting them to your style trailer.

Also you can buy a 2 stage winch - where 1 stage is power where the boat comes up slowly but you spin the handle quickly and 1 stage speed where the boat moves quickly but it can be very hard to spin the hand, most winches are that are only 1 stage are speed winches
or
Get an electric winch

OR

Suck it up for the few times you use this launch!

You may have to back in further to make loading easier. At least back in to completely soak your bunks and then pull up to where you normally load. You might also try rocking the boat a little (side to side) as you winch.

Wet your bunks before loading. There are also products that are mounted to the bunks to get rid of friction. Most marine catalogs have them. I think they are called bunk glides.

Re: Trailer problem

You have already stated that the problem was the pitch of the ramp.

There was this ramp I used 4 or 5 times and whenever I had to launch or retrieve during high tide, the bottom of the boat always touched the concrete. My tow car's had to be submerged, and still scratched and scraped the boat's bottom. But I did not have a problem on low tide. Never went back. Don't blame the set up of the trailer when it's all about pitch. The town refunded my annual ramp fee.

Hi Earnies2,
Sounds like you're getting ready to sell it!

Another post suggested cutting up a plastic barrel into strips and fitting these onto your bunks.

Being dirt poor, I'm gonna try that. The idea, obviously, is to get the boat to slide easier. If it works - anybody got 1,000 old barrels to sell me cheap?
