I am repainting my ,83 Mac 25 trailer and there is a plackard that once showed the serial number, date manufactured etc. All of the information is no longer there. I guess it has been bleached out bu the sun. It seemed useless so I scraped it off for painting.<br /><br />My question is that after painting, do I have to replace this? Or, what markings, if any are required on a trailer.<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Mike

Re: trailer markings

I think for legal purposes you might should have kept the label. Is the VIN stamped into trailer? If not you may contact the manufactor and explain what you did along with a photocopy of the title for a replacement sticker.

If it is already registed, within your state, don't worry about it. <br /><br />Hoever, it's a good idea to stamp the VIN somewhere on the trailer. Preferably on a the frame, where it won't be tampered with.

Thanks for your input! I think I did see the Vin # somewhere but I think that contacting the manufacturer is the way to go.<br /><br />Thanks again,<br /><br />Mike

Re: trailer markings

The vin# should be on the title. In NC the legal way to stamp (a homebuilt) trailer is with 2" high letters, on the axle and the tounge.<br /><br /> But really what are the chances of getting stopped and the trailer # checked???<br /><br />lakeman1999 ....a quick question... I am moving to SC in a while and am wondering, do trailers there need a tag???

Seaboo- Actually pretty good chance. A trooper checked on this weekend whenever I was at work. About 30 minutes later I had to do the same thing. Brand new trailer with no lights. One of the things that attract this attention is a real nice trailer with homemade status on the title.

The only trailers that need tags are camper trailers. I have a dump trailer, four boat trailers, and an equiptment trailer to transport my tractor, no titles, and no license plates. This is a great place to live, we have many good lakes, the mountains, the ocean beaches, and Jessie Jackson has moved to Chicago. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Re: trailer markings

It may not cause problems for you unless you move to a state that requires it or try to sell it to someone in a state that requires it.
