I have a EZ Loader tandom trailer with surge brakes and a manual winch. The coupler and winch are showing some rust however they are both still serviceable. Is there some lubrication for these trailer components that will extend their life? I use the boat and trailer in saltwater.

I use my boat in salt water too. I typically just make sure I Wash the entire thing off with fresh water and periodically I will spray WD-40 and then Super Lube on anything that needs to be lubed. Seems to be working so far.

You can buy products at the home center to protect metal parts from rust. Look in the paint section, the electrical section, and the tool section.

Get some acid or toilet bowl cleaner or some on-off bottom cleaner.Put it on the rusted surfaces wearing protective gloves and wire brush it in.Try a second treatment and then let it dry thoroughly. Then either get some Galvanize spray and spray it right on to where the rust was or get a spray can of extend rust converter and spray that on the rust. The Extend will have to be top coated with paint.Charlie

Good plan, but I might add what may be obvious to some, but not all...Before soaking your winch in rust removal chemicals, you should remove the rope or strap first. I'd hate to see your brand-new-looking shiny winch try to crank in your boat with a chemically weakened line!
